Putting yourself on social media to promote your business might seem intimidating at first, but I’m sure you’ll be having fun in no time.
Social Media Success Tips
Facebook & Instagram are two of your biggest friends when it comes to social media success! Be sure to create business accounts, so you can see stats that track your pages. Connect your IG and FB business accounts so your posts are automatically shared on both sites. Both social sites also make it easy for you to share video content, which is great since it’s the # 1 way to convert sales these days.
Consistency is key when posting content on social media. Try to post 1 – 3 times a day, but don’t worry too much about it. Use a scheduling service like Avon Social or Hootsuite (they have a free version) to help you. Try to check in on your social media pages a couple times a day to answer any questions, and to interact with your followers.
The 80/20 Rule
The Pareto principle (also known as the 80/20 rule, the law of the vital few, or the principle of factor sparsity) states that, for many events, roughly 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes.
I’m sure you have heard about the 80/20 rule before since it’s the cardinal rule of social media marketing. It means that your share 20% of your selling content in the form of products, services, etc. and 80% is varying content like tutorials, anything that’s of interest to you and your audience, and even everyday moments of your life.
If you’re not comfortable showing yourself online, turn the camera around and show what YOU see!
Tips On What To Post:
- Give your audience a peek behind the scene
- Do video show & tell showing off products you love
- Conduct live interviews to build credibility
- Create how-to’s or product demos to help your customers picture themselves using it
- Show off your authentic self and share what’s important to you
- Share things that make you laugh
Let your personality shine through when you’re posting or creating videos to share online! Talk like a friend, not a salesperson, and watch your tone of voice. Imagine you’re having a conversation with your best friend over coffee. Creating great video content means you’re showing off your authentic self, and nobody does that better than you.

Start conversations on social media and respond to people who engage with you in a timely fashion. You need to become somewhat of a Social Butterfly! It’s called ‘social media’ for a reason. Remember to comment on other people’s posts as well. Getting your voice out there will help you build your own following.
Even if you get a negative comment, always respond positively! It will show that you want to resolve issues, not argue about it.
Hashtags, hashtags, hashtags
Take advantage of product and brand-related hashtags, especially on Instagram. People on social media use hashtags to search for topics, products and all sorts of different things. You can use up to 30 hashtags on an Instagram post, but it’s recommended that you only use 1 – 3 hashtags on Facebook.
