Social media marketing should be effective, affordable, and help grow your business.
Your marketing results are going to be minimal at best if you broadcast your message to the wrong audience. To help you execute a successful social media marketing campaign try to dedicate some time to learn how social media works.
There are a lot of social media marketing tips available, from free content on websites like mine, to paid online courses and video tutorials.
It’s not very hard to educate yourself on the best social media practices, as long as you set aside some time to do it. Be sure to check back to this website as I share more social media marketing tips in the future.
Now, let’s take a look at my top 5 social media marketing essentials to get you started.
1. Listen to your customers.
You will only know what your customers want by listening to what they have to say. Therefore, it’s important that you use your social media platforms as an extension of your customer service. More customers are comfortable voicing their opinions on social media sites than via email, over the phone or in person.
When you listen to your audience, you learn more about them and it will open the door to other opportunities. Listening to your audience can provide you with valuable information.
2. Delight your audience.
Engaging your social media followers allows you to uncover problems or issues that your other customers might be experiencing as well. It’s one thing to fill up your social media feed with posts and fun pictures, but it’s another thing to actively engage with your audience.
I see a lot of small business owners posting a couple times a day, thinking that they are doing the right thing when it comes to social media marketing. But, you can’t just post something and then walk away from it. If you do that, you’re out on missing prime opportunities to engage with your audience.
Be proactive and address issues or questions quickly, before they turn into fires that are difficult to put out. When your lines of communication are open, you will discover any problematic situations before they have a chance to spiral out of control.
3. Don’t get overwhelmed.
It is almost impossible, and not worth it, to be active on every single social media platform. I, and every other social marketer, will always suggest that you start with two or three social media platforms at the most. Find out which site your target audience is most active on.
Master those, and then expand your social reach as your small home based business grows. If you want you can get on additional social platforms later on, or just stick to the social media site that works best for you!
Focus on the social media platforms that complement your small business.
Or maybe in this case, the Avon brand. Marketing on Pinterest, for instance, might not be very effective for some businesses. For Avon Reps it’s a site that you should put some effort into. I’ve seen first hand that it works.
Just because Pinterest marketing might not work so well for a law firm or dentist, doesn’t mean it should be ignored. It’s important to know where to focus your social media efforts based on what works for you and your customers.
4. Automate for consistency.
There is smart automation, and then there’s spammy and ineffective automation, when it comes to social media marketing. You don’t want to only share promotional offers. That’s a quick way to lose all of your followers or never gaining any in the first place. Use social media as a way to communicate with your audience and provide them valuable information. When you do that, you will gain supporters that you can eventually convert into sales.
Make sure you stay consistent! There are several pieces of automation software, like Hootsuite (they offer a free plan), that can greatly increase your efficiency. Avon Representatives have a brand-new automation tool at their disposal. Avon Social is easy to set up and use, learn more about it on the Social Selling Show.
If you schedule your posts in advance, I try to set up weekly posts every Monday, this gives me more time to engage with my social media followers. Don’t solely rely on automation though, check in with your audience daily and try to mix it up.
5. Track and measure.
You can’t run a successful social media marketing campaign if you don’t measure your results. It’s important that you have clear goals with benchmarks in place. This will allow you to determine whether or not your social efforts are paying off.
You must be willing to constantly optimize and test your efforts if you want to develop a truly successful social campaign. Your ultimate goal is to get your message in front of the correct audience and get them to engage. In order to do that, you need to track and measure everything. Happy social media marketing!
